Unit 3 Exhibition Proposal

What do you intend to exhibit?

I would like to exhibit a large printed work on three separate rolls of paper. Each roll is 85cm wide, the length of each roll can be shortened or lengthened (to a maximum length of approximately 3.5 metres). The configuration of the three rolls can be adjusted in relation to  the space. However, each roll should be attached to the ceiling, where the unrolled image will be visible and will extend to near ground level.

three seperate rolls, each 85cm wide x variable height of up to approximately 350 cm

Different configuration options:

Do you have any other specific requests?

This work does not require wall space, but it will occupy space in the centre of the room. Therefore it will be important to consider how other works in the room will be viewed. It may work well if other wall based works in the vicinity were are small, and therefore do not require the viewer to stand back at a great distance and risk backing into the work.

What are the health and safety considerations?

Visitors are encouraged to examine the work from various angles, however, as in any gallery environment they will need to be aware of the location of other works, and vice versa, as they do so.

There is no frame or protection on the paper, it is exposed so is vulnerable to physical contact or spills. The paper is light and will be affected by the a breeze if a window or door is open, I like this and it is part of the work.

How will the work be installed?

6 small metal hooks are screwed into the ceiling using appropriate wall plugs. String or cable will be attached to a hook, threaded through the roll, and attached to the other corresponding hook. The same fittings are present at the bottom of the work and require a further 6 metal hooks and wall plugs.

I will need/provide the following equipment:

  • An electric screwdriver

  • Wall plugs

  • 12 x small metal hooks

  • A ladder

  • A tape measure

  • A long rule/spirit level

Ethics

I do not foresee any ethical issues regarding the content or themes of the work.
